It’s not often that you’ll come across a 7-year-old as selfless as Vinny Desautels. The second grader has gone above and beyond to help cancer patients only to end up being diagnosed with the disease himself.
Vinny spent two years growing out his hair just so he could later donate it to pediatric cancer patients. However, he soon discovered that he would have a fight of his own after his parents noticed a lump on his right hip.
Vinny came home from school complaining about knee pain, which lead his parents to find an unusual lump on his hip. His parents were also monitoring one of Vinny’s eyes that was continually swelling, but they had just attributed it to seasonal allergies.
When Vinny’s parents took him to the hospital, an X-ray revealed a large growth on his hip and he was sent to another hospital in Sacramento for further testing. With multiple tests, doctors found that there were tumors on his hip and in the bone around his eye.
Vinny was eventually diagnosed with an unknown form of metastatic cancer and his parents are still awaiting confirmation on whether it’s Ewing’s sarcoma or not.
A GoFundMe page was created for Vinny and his grandparents wrote, ‘Even though he was teased throughout the two years of growing his hair out, it didn’t deter him from his mission… to help a child in need.
