Did you know that by eating a banana every morning, you can lose up to 10 pounds within 7 days? What’s more, the banana diet regimen doesn’t require any additional effort or some specific changes in your daily nutrition. This regimen became very popular after it was first presented in Hitoshi Watanabe’s book The Morning Banana Diet.
The regimen is consisted of eating a banana after waking up and drinking a glass of water at room temperature. For lunch and dinner, you can eat anything you want.
After several unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, Watanabe decided to retell his experience including every diet regimen he had tried out previously, as well as the scientific knowledge in the field of preventive medicine of his wife Sumiko, a pharmacist. The couple created the Morning Banana Diet which soon gained a lot of popularity in people who are not gym fans. Although it is highly recommended that people who have problems with surplus weight exercise, Watanabe helped them avoid this and instead recommended a far simpler solution- a banana and a glass of water in the morning.
Bananas are rich in resistant starch which encourages the weight loss process. However, not every type of starch has the same effect. Hence, starch is divided into digestible and resistant starch. In fact, resistant starch doesn’t dissolve in the small intestine, but it goes directly into the large intestine where the fermentation process begins. Bacteria turn this starch into short-chain fatty acids that nourish the cells and improve the health of the gastrointestinal tract.
How many bananas you need to consume?
There is no rule that you need to follow concerning the number of bananas. Simply, eat enough bananas to keep you full. The Japanese practice the rule of 80/20 as they believe that people should never overload with food.
The glass with warm water is important for stimulation of the metabolism. After an hour, eat a banana. If you are still hungry after 20 minutes, you can eat another banana. Always opt for raw bananas.
In the book, Watanabe explains that you need to avoid milk and alcohol during the regimen and your last meal should be at 8 pm. Go to bed earlier, as scientists claim that going to bed late is closely related to obesity. If you feel hungry between meals, eat some fruit.
